Now, in the limbo between the rehearsals of shows, we are presenting the UBC Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Fifth Annual Musical Revue!  Our revues are a fun collection of the club’s favourite musical numbers as allocated to a common theme: this year, “Masquerade”.

Featuring numbers like “Facade” from Jekyll and Hyde, “Masquerade” from Phantom of the Opera, “Master of the House” from Les Miserables and others from the musicals Chorus Line, Spamalot, Chicago, Annie and Wicked among the multitude.

There is only a one-off performance, so be sure to visit the Student Union Building Ballroom at UBC on April 1st at 8:00PM to see it!  The admission fee is $5, paid in cash at the door. Come for the singing and dancing and general revelry.  Best of all?  Come in Costume.

We are all very excited, and we woul d love for you to be there!

The Gilbert and Sullivan Society presents Fiddler on the Roof!

Fiddler is to be performed at John Oliver Secondary School’s auditorium on the following dates:

7:30PM on Thursday, 04 Feburary
7:30PM on Friday, 05 Feburary
2:00PM and 7:30PM shows on Saturday, 06 Feburary

In addition to these shows, there is an open dress rehearsal on Wednesday, Feburary 03, to which any may come in to watch.  We gladly accept donations on this date.  John Oliver students in particular are most welcome!

John Oliver Secondary is located at 530 East. 41st Avenue.

Tickets will be sold at the door, and the price is $15 for students, and $20 for non-students.  Please be aware that we only accept cash.

The Sorcerer is a Gilbert & Sullivan comic operetta where Alexis plots to unite the social classes via the Sorcerer’s magic love potion. When the ship’s passengers all drink of it, they all fall in love with the first person they see, causing mayhem on the ship.

This classic comic operetta tells the story of Nanki-Poo, son of the Mikado of Japan, who escapes the court to avert marriage to the elderly Katisha. Disguised as a rhythm guitarist, he falls in love with Yum-Yum, who is betrothed to a tailor named Ko-Ko. With a chorus of Japanese businessmen and anime schoolgirls, this updated re-telling of The Mikado is surefire crowd-pleaser.

Times have changed! Max Bialystock (The Producers) can’t compete on Broadway with the gimmicks of puppets and celebrities in other shows. Yenta (Fiddler on the Roof) sees matchmaking falling apart when faced with online dating and single chat lines. Amos Hart (Chicago) is unnoticed, but can’t help but notice Liesel (The Sound of Music), who can’t seem to land a part. They work together when the Narrator (Into the Woods) introduces them to a friend who can help. This friend, the Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera), dreams of finding his former glory by shaping Liesel into a star. It all goes horribly wrong, and the cast must find out if they can take each other for who they are.
