About

The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of UBC’s goal is to provide fun amateur musical theatre opportunities for the UBC and Vancouver community through performances of Gilbert & Sullivan works and other productions, and to provide inexpensive entertainment for everyone.

We unofficially started in 2003, with our first production of The Mikado. The success of this production prompted us to start an official student club at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver. Eight years later, our fresh, fun shows continue to grow in quality and quantity!

If you are wondering if this is the right club for you to join, have no fears! We are composed of students, faculty, and community members of all ages and experience. We are here as an outlet for anyone with any interest in theatre and/or music, so you should check us out. Don’t read music well, (or even at all)? Two left feet? That’s alright! We have opportunities to learn.

There are so many different ways to get involved, beyond the singing, acting, and dancing that you’d expect in a musical theatre/operetta club. You could try theatre production (stage management, set, costumes, props, front of house), join us at social events, become a member of the Executive Council (promotions, posters, event planning, web design and more) or just meet new people and have fun! Join us!
